A life's journey

 My week thus far:

So far this week, I have felt like pulling what little hair I have on my head out! Taking those three days last week to care for my son was a total nightmare when it came to coming back to work. Monday, well, I don’t remember much about Monday. It was a blur of nothing but busyness. Tuesday I was able to breath a little bit, but not much. Yesterday I think I actually made a dent in getting caught up. Today…..well, it’s just the beginning so we’ll see how it goes.

 my "vacation" last week

So it’s been over a week since I posted. Sorry about that. Kinda sorta didn’t have time…. Mikhai decided to give mom and excuse to take a vacation from work. Here’s how it went…….

Last week (Tuesday) as I was putting Mikhai in the car to go to ms. Tee’s, I notice on his legs he’s got what look like bite insect bite marks. It was dark and I only noticed about three or four. I told ms. Tee so she would be aware and thought nothing of it. I thought nothing of it until she called me after lunch and said that she thought he had chicken pox and she was going to see if my sister would pick him up early. (*insert groan*) NOW I’m thinking of nothing else. I go talk to my boss and tell her that I will probably have to take an unscheduled vacation for Lord only knows how long. Then we proceeded to pull up chicken pox on the internet and thoroughly get me worked up. So my sister picks him up, says it looks like chicken pox and then tells me that I have to leave early to get him. Here we go. That night (after both my mom and sister said the same thing) I gave him a hot bath to make him break out for sure and get the ball rolling, but after the bath the spots on his body didn’t seem to get worse or increase in numbers. That’s when I really looked at them. Some of the spots looked like they did when we found out he was allergic to penicillin. They were (as the dr called them) target lesions. They were white inside and then had a red ring around them. Some of the other spots were the complete opposite (red with white skin around them). At that point I’m racking my brain trying to figure out, if this is an allergic reaction, what in the world has changed or has he gotten into that he’s breaking out from. The next morning (Wednesday) as soon as the doctor’s office opened I called to make an appointment to figure out for sure what was going on with him. The first thing the nurse says after looking him over was that he did NOT have chicken pox (*insert deep relieved sigh*), but she wasn’t sure what had caused the spots. the doctor comes in and says, “let me look first, then I’ll ask questions”. So she looks at all the different places that he is broken out and reiterates that it is not chicken pox. Then rattles off this list of stuff that might cause allergies and all of them Mikhai has either had before with no problem or that was not something that was introduced or that he had over the weekend. She said that he had a slight fever of 99 degrees and after feeling his tummy she said that he might have a viral infection because his (spleen I think) was enlarged and she shouldn’t be able to feel it normally. She looks at his eyes, nose, ears (those look good…yay), and throat and says that his throat is a little red (he had been coughing the night before) so she was just going to rule out the possibility of strep by doing a swab of his throat. Several minutes later she comes back in and says, “well, I have good news and bad news. I know the cause of his reaction. The bad news is that the cause is strep. I even had the nurse double check because I didn’t want to be the case.” (*insert another groan*) She said that she was going to give him an antihistamine for the reaction already, but since she found out he had strep (and since he is allergic to penicillin) she was going to have us give him a dose of the antihistamine first and then half an hour later we could give him the antibiotic. She said that the rash would get much worse before it would get better and to expect it to last up to two or three weeks. (*insert yet another groan*) Yippee! $25 later and we’re outta there and on our way to the pharmacy to spend money that I don’t have.

Nothing very exciting happens the rest of the day…..

Thursday is another story…………..
Mikhai and I get up and eat and are just chillin’ but when I went to change him into his outfit for the day I noticed that he really didn’t have a rash anymore. You could tell where a few spots had been, but it was nothing like the day before. SWEET!!!! Okay, this is turning out to be pretty good. Then…..(*insert drum-roll*)……..the power goes off. And stays off. You don’t realize how much noise happens daily until there is utter silence in the house. I waited a few minutes to see if it was some sort of fluke and would return in a minute. No such luck. So I called mom. “hey, I was just checking, did you pay the electricity bill this month?” “no, I can’t pay it until tomorrow. Why?” “oh, the power has just been turned off.” “are you sure? Is it just us or are the other houses on the block out also?” how do you check in the daytime if someone else doesn’t have power? Besides knocking on someone’s door….. she then makes me go next door to see if they have power.
No ones home, well damn, but their door bell is working.
Maybe that’s just batteries.
Umm, ours doesn’t work and it normally does.
So then she gets all huffy (like only she can) and hangs up. She calls me a little bit later and says that the power will be back on by midnight. No questions asked, no questions answered. Mikhai and I were not going to stay in that house with no power so we went to visit my sister at work. (just trying to kill time here.) about 4:45 I called my mom to see what time krys got home so we could keep her company and she said that she was already home and that the power was on so we headed home.. not much more excitement that evening.
oh! i forgot to mention that ms. tee called me this evening to tell me that she spoke with her pediatrician and he felt that mikhai should have two SOLID days of medication in his system before he comes back to daycare. so she will see him on monday, not tomorrow like mom had planned. so instead of just taking two days off, i got the rest of the week.

Friday we were going to surprise my mom at work and see if she wanted to have lunch after and the woman was not even there. I called her and she had JUST left. So we made plans to have lunch anyway. After that, Mikhai and I headed out to LSP to sign the paperwork for the new season. This time it’s only two months and I only work on Friday and Saturday…..not bad.

Nothing happened this weekend except the fact that my son and I weren’t included in any family activities. Totally irritated about this….. Saturday the “family” went to Aunt Dee Dee’s and the Sunday mom dad and krys were going to aunt dee dee’s and mom says to me, “if you want to come over for a little bit (there was MAJOR stress on the little bit part) larry and lyndsey will be there after about 2:30” well, damn, don’t make it sound like you don’t want us there… needless to say, Mikhai and I did NOT go over. I didn’t want to be where I was not wanted. OH!!! And while I “stayed home” I was told that I had to watch the pot that she had cooking and take the meat out after a while and cut it up. There was no asking me to take care of it. They just set the damn thing up, gave me instructions and left. ARGH!!!!!

so i hear you have a boyfriend?

last monday at break, MI asks (out of the blue i might add), "so i hear you have a boyrfiend?"

ummm, i do? since when? uh, last time i checked i didn't, but if you know something, PLEASE let me know!!!

then he says, "oh, nevermind" in a 'forget i ever asked and let's drop it' tone.

i want to know where that came from and what prompted that question cuz we haven't really talked much since he told me that he had decided that he was going to change the way he lived. his new motto was going to be "as hard and fast and as many as he could"......

i think we need a shower now....

last night we were just laying in bed playing, waiting for mikhai to get sleepy and decide that he wanted to go to sleep, and mikhai was blowing raspberries on my tummy when all of a sudden i felt this wet sensation all over my arm and stomach. ugh! mikhai spit up on me! that came out of nowhere. he didn't act disturbed or upset or like anything out of the ordinary had happened. whew...then the smell hit me. ugh! yeah, it's most definitely shower time. i think he had two or three small little spots on his shirt whereas i had one massive blob on my shorts and all over my stomach. why is it that when a kid throws up, the parent WEARS the brunt of the liquid?

we took a shower and just about the point that we were getting out, mikhai slips and bonks his head on the tub. poor guy. but after the initial, "oh mum, that hurt" reaction he was fine.

he didn't sleep the greatest last night and i'm kinda concerned cuz he also ate practically nothing yesterday. i called ms. tee, but she didn't answer. hopefully he's doing fine and playing to his heart's content.

 where's mum

last night mikhai was really cranky (again...lol) and i asked him if he wanted to go upstairs and go night-night. as soon as i asked him he took off and was heading for the stairs. mom said, he's going upstairs to go to bed, you might want to go with him. i didn't mean for him to go right then and there. we didn't even give kisses to anyone. they were all downstairs and he left. so i grabbed his cups and took off after him. he was probably passed out by 8:30 and to make sure that he was really asleep i watched tv for a while. by about 10:30 he had not gotten up yet so i thought i was safe to go take a shower. WRONG!!!! (i guess it's a good thing i don't have to shave my legs every day......) so i get in there and i had just rinsed my hair when i heard screaming. mikhai woke up and mum wasn't in the room. when i didn't call his name or pick him up, he left the room and went tearing down the hallway to his grama and papa. mom said that by the time papa got out of bed, mikhai was already down the hall and at the foot of their bed. i came out of the bathroom dripping wet with a towel around me to get his milk and make sure he was okay. papa then took him back to bed so that i could get dressed. when i got him from papa he was still awake, but as soon as i lay down with him he passed out again. (the joys of motherhood)

*mikhia discovered the moon this morning. when we leave for work, it is REALLY dark outside and he was awake and just happened to look up. his eyes were huge and he just stared at it. we got out of the car at ms. tee's and i pointed it out to him again and he got an excited look on his face and pointed at it.
